The Sentinel is the youngest model in Transition's range, it's the reason that they developed their Speed Balanced Geometry and was one of the most highly coveted bikes of 2018. It’s a burly long-travel 29er, with beefy 160mm suspension forks and 140mm GiddyUp 2.0 rear travel. Depending on how you like to ride, this hugely capable bike is either a wagon-wheeled Trail slayer or a beefy Enduro / All Mountain sled.
Transition have long held a reputation for producing bikes with spot-on geometry, amazing specs and brilliantly performing GiddyUp suspension, so why mess with perfection? The staff at Transition are riders who always obsess about ways to improve their ability to shred and have fun on a bike, and that’s just what the next-generation GiddyUp 2.0 is all about.
Their new range of bikes uses a different frame design and tubing, with new rear shocks and kinematics, tweaked travel configurations and a whole new way of thinking about bike geometry. The new series of bikes are both totally different from what came before, and yet still pure Transition pedigree.
Modern trail bikes are a world away from the bikes of the “680mm bars and 120mm stem” era, having gotten progressively longer, slacker and more stable at speed. There’s a limit to how far you can take any of these “advances” in geometry before you start to experience negative effects like poor handling or loss of grip at the front though, so it’s almost black magic that anyone managed to create a series of bikes that perform even better than Transition’s previous highly acclaimed range.
The team at Transition Bikes are understandably proud of their new Speed Balanced Geometry (SBG). This incredible new design alters the shape and size of the bike, moving the rider to a more balanced position that increases stability at high speeds and on steep descents, agility at low speeds, and improves traction and control.
The key to achieving this was combining a slacker headtube angle with a reduced offset fork, an advancement that required working with RockShox and Fox to develop a new range of low-offset suspension forks. All-new geometry sees frames increasing in length, with shorter stock stems supplied to reduce the increase in reach and allow riders to use bikes that are more capable on both the climbs and descents than ever before.
